My latest offering, ‘Bombproof Your Human; A Horse’s Guide to Teaching Confident Riding’, has been published as a limited edition to support the British Horse Society’s Drawing the Line campaign which aims to draw attention to the indiscriminate breeding of horses.

Graham Cory, chief executive of The British Horse Society says, ‘We need to impress upon all owners of relatively low quality mares that their unthinking action could lead to suffering, and to make the entire equestrian community aware of the issue so that they can exert peer pressure on those who commit the deed.

No effective programme of education and persuasion can be mounted without significant resources. Unfortunately this particular problem does not have the immediate ‘tugging-at-the-heartstrings’ appeal of welfare cases which involve serious injury or obvious cruel treatment, so the raising of the requisite funds is not easy.’

As well as deciding to donate all the profits from the sale of Bombproof Your Human to support this cause, I have also donated an original drawing, based on the cover image, with two other cartoons as a triptych for the Drawing the Line fundraising auction which takes place on 13 October 2010 at Cheffins in Cambridge.

This is an issue I believe every horse owner and horse lover should aware of. I feel really strongly that I should do my bit and the best way I could think of to do that was to donate the profits from my latest book and the cover image for the auction. At least £2 from the sale of each book will be donated to the campaign fund.

Bombproof Your Human has had a limited print run of 500 copies. This book is more specifically aimed at horse riders than my first three books which were written for a wider audience of horse lovers. Early feedback from the book has been terrific:

‘I’ve got to congratulate you on another fantastic book. Bought it for my mum after you inspired her so much at YHL and she loves it!’ Tara Jones

Bombproof Your Human is also available through the British Horse Society bookshop www.britishhorse.com.

Sadly, during the final production stages of Bomb-proof, on November 9th 2009, my little dog George met with an untimely accident and trotted off to doggy heaven. He was only six and we all thought he’d be here for a long time yet. Clearly that was not meant to be. I choose to believe that he was called by the angels to fulfil another mission of spreading love and joy.

He was my inspiration and my muse. Both Paul (my fiance) and I miss him dreadfully but we have vowed to keep his special brand of love going and sharing it with everyone. So for 2010 we will be developing a series of books and products based on the huge wisdom of this very special small dog.

In my mind I see him sitting in the lap of an angel with the smug, half-closed eyes look he adopted whenever he found a lap to sit on and a willing hand to stroke him – of which there were many!

RIP Gorgeous George – your memory will live on as will your love.

I’m very excited! The finishing flourishes to ‘Bomb-proof Your Human; An Equine’s Guide to Teaching Confident Riding’ are in process and then I’ll be able to show off the new baby – tada!!! This one is a little different to the others – it has focused positive affirmations and power thoughts for humans to help them build their confidence and teaching notes for their equine guide. Here’s a sneak peak…

Thought for Your Human

If my horse could hear all my thoughts, would he want to listen or would he put his hooves over his ears? Supposing I just allow only the thoughts into my head that he would be happy to hear?

Equine Guidance Note

How well can you read your human and hear their thoughts? When they ‘blow up’, did you sense it coming or was it a complete surprise. We are adept at recognizing a muscle twitch in the herd, but do you know which human muscle twitch means what? Can you pick up the wobbly lip, the teary ears, the bodily tension of frustration versus the rigor mortis of abject terror? The better you are at picking up these subtle human signals, the easier you will be able to bombproof your own.
