BeLOVEd came out of nowhere one day at the end of January 2015. I had metaphorically turned on the creative tap for a flow of words to write my book. What flowed through my fingers was art. Until this point I had barely lifted a paintbrush since I was a child. The book is still half written, the art however has taken over our house so it is time to share the love and let a few pieces fly to new homes. My first public exhibition will be in April 2016.
Beloved, Listen to Your Heart, Be Love and Be Loved
These words were given to me on this day in January. Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love) talks of ideas waiting to find the channel that will express them. I believe that this art – a bringing together of love in its widest most expansive sense with the cosmos as an ever-expanding, exuberant expression of life’s love for itself – was an idea looking for an expression that found me open and welcoming as its channel. I can only assume it was divine intervention because it definitely came to me not from me.
BeLOVEd is about three things:
BE Love – give it, imbue everything you do and everything you are with it.
Be LOVED – allow yourself to receive it, in all its guises and glory.
BELOVED – the divine in me greets the divine in you.
And so my work is to give and receive love. My art and my writing are all expressions of love; made with love and filled with love. A way of sharing and spreading love in a world that often seems to be love-less (if you watch the news, which I don’t). Kahlil Gibran in The Prophet speaks of work as ‘love made visible’. This work is my ‘love made visible’, gifted from my heart to yours.
None of these pieces came from a planned thought process, or even my imagination. They emerge from the brush and I am in awe of these creations just as much as you might be. (Interestingly when I ‘try’ to create, rubbish is usually what comes out!). Each piece is unique – even where the same materials and colours are used. It is an exercise in listening to my heart, trusting and allowing the flow. To quote a beautiful poem channelled by my gorgeous friend Alison Knox “I let my love fly free, opened my Heart and trusted; it would come back to me.”
My inspiration is the cosmos itself. Images from space, images from the Hubble telescope, conversations with and listening to astronomers and cosmologists. Just observing the stars, planets and the moon in the night sky fills me with awe, joy and love.
We are all made of stardust. We are all a part of this vast universe and the universes beyond. If we choose to do so, we have a vast energy of field of love stretching into infinity that we can reach out to – to be love and to be loved.

Here’s to being love and being loving and being loved 🙂
