Blue Heart of the Milky Way

IMG_1061 This artwork was inspired by a small blue light in the left hand corner of a photograph of the Milky Way. The image is in the book Hubble, Legacy Edition by Giles Sparrow and a photo of that image is below.

It is just a tiny splodge of light, but it called to me. I had been using the whole images as an inspiration for Heart of the Cosmos, another artwork which brings in all the gold, pinks and purples of the Milky Way image.

Blue Heart of the Milky Way is an original 32 x 12 inch portrait on acid free box canvas, painted in acrylic with a variety of crystals, clay hearts also painted with acrylic and encrusted with shimmering Glamour Dust. The hearts’ ‘tails’ are created with foil.
